Membership of NRS is open to all Jews (as defined by the Movement for
Reform Judaism Beth Din) and applications are welcomed by the Honorary
Secretary or Chairman on the appropriate forms. Please note that the
first year's subscription is payable with the application. Non-Jewish
partners or individuals who wish to support the Synagogue and associate
with it may apply to become 'Friends of NRS'.
The Synagogue is a registered charity and is completely self-financing.
As such it has to cover the cost of a Rabbi, Synagogue building, Prayer
House and all overheads, expenses and administration from membership
subscriptions and fund-raising activities. A realistic fee is charged
each year (as approved by the members at the Annual General Meeting)
for membership and for 'Friends'. We ask for subscriptions to be Gift
Aided wherever possible as this enables NRS to recover a substantial
proportion of tax for each subscription. The Synagogue Council has a
policy of not excluding anyone from membership on the grounds of genuine
hardship. If the fee presents a genuine problem to you, please talk
to the Treasurer, who will listen sympathetically and will determine
an appropriate level of fee.
